When a good friend, sibling or relative is going to have their first child, you may be placed in charge of throwing them a baby shower. While not many people think money is no object when it comes to throwing a baby shower, there are many fun baby shower ideas for people on a budget, and they will look fabulous without looking as if you spent pennies or a fortune.
Use What You Have
If you have children, use a few of their stuffed animals, a mobile and any other toys or items that might make good decorations for a baby shower. There is no need to go overboard; a few well placed stuffed animals and other items will help set the tone in a room for the party.
Use Christmas lights – a string of colorful Christmas lights hung around the room will help to make the area festive, even a white set would give a nice cheerful glow to the room.
Make Your Own Cake
There are many different cake mixes and DIY type kits for baby shower sheet cakes or tower style cakes. They have simple directions and easy to follow patterns to make a great looking cake for your guests at half the costs.
Creative Centerpiece
One neat centerpiece is a grouping of glass baby bottles used as vases. These could be purchased at a thrift store and then filled with colorful marbles and a little water, then tie them all together with a large ribbon, making a bow and place various pink and blue carnations in the bottles.
Creative Game
The dirty diaper game is always a big hit at baby showers and very inexpensive. Show a fabric stores remnant section and purchase a large piece of white cotton or muslin. Either rip or cut the fabric into small triangles. Using safety pins, fold the triangle up to resemble a small diaper. The day of the party, put a dab of Dijon Mustard in a few of the small diapers – as many as you have prices or gifts for. Then lay the diapers on a tray and allow each guest to choose one and the guests who choose the ‘dirty diapers’ win the prizes.
